Today we are proud to share with you a very important news: SkinLabo is now certified Plastic Neutral by rePurpose Global ! Let's find out what does it mean and how it works.

HOW CAN WE GENERATE WELLNESS BY USING LESS PLASTIC?

Every year we collect cheerful colored tubes on our bathroom shelves, but have we ever asked ourselves the question of what happens to them?

We took a step back and asked ourselves, "How much plastic do we put into the environment with our packaging each year?"

Here's the answer: 11 tons of plastic.

You probably have the same expression on your face that we had on ours.

And do you know how much plastic the beauty and personal care industry generates every year?

More than 120 billion units of packaging globally, most of which are not truly recyclable. Furthermore every year 91% of the world's plastic waste ends up in landfills, is incinerated or dumped into rivers and oceans.

Can we stand still in front of this shocking evidence?

No. We want to continue to love our products light-heartedly knowing that our choices are not harming the planet, its oceans or nature. That's the commitment we're making as a brand: making conscious choices.

Dreaming of a world where only plastic free products exist is probably just a dream. However, everyone can contribute to the change  and SkinLabo has already started from the first day of 2022, deciding to be officially certified plastic neutral. A clear commitment that aims to offset the plastic we produce:

  • we remove as much plastic from nature as we generate
  • we reduce our environmental impact;
  • we contribute to the health of the planet.

SKINLABO TOGETHER WITH REPURPOSE GLOBAL AGAINST THE PLASTIC EPIDEMIC

We believe that real commitment  comes along with concrete actions and  we have chosen rePurpose Global (https://www.business.repurpose.global/) as a partner in this new challenge we are taking on.

rePurpose Global is the world's leading Plastic Action Platform dedicated to reducing waste, reviving lives, and restoring nature's balance. On behalf of its global coalition, the organization eliminates millions of pounds of plastic waste from nature every year, and in doing so, positively impact the lives of 10,000+ marginalized waste workers and community members worldwide.

As a brand we are proud to contribute toa greener and more sustainable future and to give back to the planet some of the beauty that is also at the heart of our products (90% of SkinLabo products are of natural origin).

Among the projects certified by rePurpose, SkinLabo has chosen to support the Pavitra Parvat Project and the disruptive mission of the Waste Warriors: a group of young Indians, who decided to drive a change , not only for the environment, but also for people.

AN ECO-FRIENDLY  PROJECT WITH A HUMANITARIAN IMPACT

In recent decades the uncontaminated nature of Derhandum, at the foot of the Himalayas, has been devastated by rampant plastic pollution. Here more than 50% of the waste is MLP (multilayer plastic), which is not collected because it is difficult to recycle and therefore of low commercial value.

Waste Warriors' mission is to collect this type of plastic, segregate it and give it a second life through "Co-processing ".*

The Pavitra Parvat Project doesn't only allow for a positive environmental imapact but it is also supportive of the local Indian population: today in India, waste workers earn less than $5 a day, work in precarious conditions and face severe discrimination, despite providing a crucial social service.

The project aims to ensure that 37 Indian waste workers and their families receive fair wages, safe work standards, and access to health insurance.

Finally as without education there can't be no real and durable change, Waste Worriors engage in spreading  awareness about fair consumption and good waste management in schools.

*CO-PROCESSING is the method of using plastic waste, as an alternative to raw materials such as coal or fossil fuels, as a source of energy, particularly in cement kilns. Thus, not only does it prevent plastic from ending up in the environment, but it also replaces a highly polluting energy source such as coal.

WHAT DOES BEING PLASTIC NEUTRAL ACTUALLY MEAN?

We can't talk about a real impact without providing concrete and mesurable evidence:

The equivalent of 1,299,923 plastic bottles will be removed  removed from nature this year.

In India, 37 waste workers, along with their families, will  receive an additional source of income

Expansion of local waste recovery and recycling infrastructure will be facilitated and enhanced.

CAN WE THINK OF PLASTIC-FREE COSMETICS?

Sure, it would be ideal, but the truth is that a percentage of it serves a valuable purpose and  sometimes it even represents the most sustainable solution.

However, reducing the use of plastic - particularly virgin plastic - in favor of packaging with more recycled plastic remains essential, and we're working head on toward that goal.

Now, if you're wondering "What can I do to contribute to a more sustainable future and lifestyle?", You can start by making sure you always recycle the right way and making informed choices about the commitment your favorite brands invest to the planet.

We all  need to be more conscious both  as businesses and as consumers

SkinLabo is proud to have taken its first step into this direction by actively commiting  to fighting plastic pollution.
